Having a ball in the holidays

During the pandemic I was not able to deliver training so it was great last summer when I was able to get out and about and work directly with services once more. However, I wanted to try something different by drawing on my knowledge as a football coach and deliver football skills training to children attending holiday services. With this in mind, I delivered 4 sessions across central Scotland in Motherwell, Maryhill, Dunblane and Helensburgh. The sessions were a great success and I was welcomed by all services; I really appreciate their support and assistance before, during and after the training.

Each session was broken down in 5 sections that included a warmup to prepare the children for taking part in physical activity. Children were then coached how to pass, shoot, and dribble the ball during the 3 main drills sections of the session. Children were then split into 2 teams and took part in a match to finish off the session. This allowed the children the chance to put into practise what they had learned in the 3 practise drills and show off their best goal celebrations!

The children loved it:

“Can you come back and coach us again?”

“This fun, you are a good coach”

“Did you see my goal; I've scored 3 goals in a row!”

And staff responses were similarly very positive:

“The session was great; it was good to see the children having fun and getting involved”

“All the children had a great time, it was good to see children who do not normally enjoy taking part in group activities get involved. Greig was great with all the children and very encouraging”

“We would want more sessions in the future, it was great to have a football coach come to teach new skills through fun games”

We are looking to expand the delivery of these sessions during the Easter and summer holidays in 2023 and if you are interested in this training during the holidays next year, please complete the form in the link below. This will not guarantee booking but will note your interest in the sessions.

Please note that all equipment is supplied by SOSCN on the day of training. Services would need to organise the venue for the session but this can be discussed when services enquire about booking a session. There will be a minimum charge of 100 for this training.
