Induction to School Age Childcare

Looking at the important knowledge and skills required to help new staff to school age childcare hit the ground running!
27th August – Glasgow

The beginning of term is often a time where services recruit new staff members. However, it is also a busy time for services and managers, as they transition from holiday clubs back to breakfast club and after school sessions, or re-open after a summer break. And then welcome and settle in new Primary 1 children. Amongst everything else!

We know this can make it difficult for managers and service leaders to dedicate time to new staff who require a thorough induction in a range of areas to help them settle into their new role and quickly become effective members of the team.

This session has been designed for new workers to the school age childcare sector, whether they haven't yet started, or have only recently joined your team.

The aim of this session to give these new workers the information they need to build their confidence and hit the ground running in their new role.

The learning objectives of this 3-hour session are:

  • Outline the out of school care sector and its history
  • Recognise key areas of practice, such as Child Protection, Play, Health and Safety, and GIRFEC and SHANARRI
  • Name legislative and regulatory requirements of the Care Inspectorate and Scottish Social Services Council, including Health and Social Care Standards and Codes of Practice
  • Identify common and relevant policies and procedures

Please note, this session should be used as a supplement to your own organisation's induction processes, to ensure new workers are aware of service specific policies, procedures and practices.
