Play in School Age Childcare

As members of the school age childcare sector, we have a responsibility to advocate for play. To do that effectively, we must strive towards becoming experts in play, as we continue to further professionalise the sector. This session should put you on that path!

This 2.5 hours session has been created to help staff working in school age childcare develop a deeper understanding of:

WHY is play important?

• Children’s right to play
• Biological driver
• Developmental benefits
• WHAT is play?

Play types

• Characteristics of play
• Play cycle

HOW can we support play?

• Observing and reflecting to ensure play is safe, inclusive, challenging and fun

This in-person session is a mix of theory and activity based, giving participants the chance to play. Afterall, if we are to be play experts, we need to practice play for ourselves too!
