Job Description

1. Job Title: Casual Childcare Worker

2. Location: Out of School Care and Mobile Crèche Services (Based in Glasgow)

3. Salary: £11.50 per hour Unqualified Casual Contract. £12.00 per hour Qualified (SCQF Level 7 or Equivalent) Casual Contract

4. Job Purpose:

To provide high quality childcare to children registered with Big Voices Childcare Services LTD. The postholder will contribute to the service by organising and providing creative play opportunities whilst caring for the wellbeing and safety of the children.

5. Main Duties & Responsibilities

Big Voices Childcare Services LTD work in accordance with the Health & Social Care Standards, SSSC Codes of Practice, Pre-Birth to Three, GIRFEC and the Playwork Principles and so staff will be expected to meet the following criteria:

Relationships

Relationships are key to the healthy growth and development of a child and so you will be expected to:

  • Develop positive, respectful and compassionate relationships with all children and families who access our service, focusing on their strengths and aspirations as individuals.
  • Have a high standard of professional integrity with colleagues and other professionals.
  • Establish clear professional boundaries with the children and families who access our services.

Professional Practice

You will be expected to work within a child-centred framework and strive to create an environment which;

  • Is Safe and secure while being fun and exciting for each child.
  • Ensures the safety of the children and to assist in their general welfare in line with Child Protection Policies and Procedures
  • Provides free choice as well as fun planned activities for children to take part in
  • Provides opportunities for everyone to take part in activities, taking into account children’s individual needs.
  • Promotes everyone involved to have a ‘Big Voice’ and communicate confidently their ideas and opinions regarding the improvement and development of the service.
  • Ensures that the individual needs of all children are met by maintaining a key worker system, where children are encouraged to work in partnership with staff to review, monitor and maintain up-to-date care plans.
  • Ensures that children’s rights are promoted.

7. Personal & Professional Development

Big Voices Childcare Services LTD encourages staff to be actively involved in their own personal and professional development as well as that of our services and so will be expected to:

  • Participate in team meetings.
  • Attend and participate in training and share learning experiences.
  • Engage in reflective practice.
  • Take part in the annual review of Big Voices Childcare Services LTD polices & procedures and local guidelines.
  • Strive for continuous personal and professional development.
  • Actively contribute to the improvement and development of each service.

8. Policies and Procedures

Big Voices Childcare Services LTD aim to provide high quality childcare and so expects all staff to adhere to:

  • Health and Social Care Standards
  • Getting it Right For Every Child Framework

  • Pre-Birth to Three
  • Health & Safety legislation and practices.

And to;

  • Register with any required government bodies and ensure memberships are updated and any attributed costs are paid for.
  • 9. Working Conditions

    • The post holder will report to the Childcare Coordinator.
    • Working hours are flexible and you may be asked to work at limited notice.
    • Big Voices Childcare Services LTD are under no obligation to offer you work.
    • You are under no obligation to accept work offered by Big Voices Childcare Services LTD
    • 6 weeks annual leave (pro-rata) per year. The equivalent of one weeks’ holiday pay is calculated based on the average weekly hours worked over the preceding 52-week period.
    • The post holder will be required to complete mandatory training which may take place at evenings or weekends. Notice will be given when staff are required to attend, and overtime will be paid.
    • All appointments are subject to a minimum of 12 weeks probationary period and relevant security checks.
    • The postholder will be automatically enrolled into our pension scheme following successful completion of their probationary period, provided they meet the auto-enrolment criteria.
    • Staff can choose to opt out of our pension scheme at any time.
    • The post holder will be required to register with the SSSC as a Practitioner in Day Care of Children Services and will be responsible for paying their initial registration fee. Big Voices Childcare Services LTD will then pay all annual registration fees thereafter.
    • Due to the nature of our work the post holder may be asked to work at different locations depending on operational requirements and staff are expected to be flexible.
