Job Description

1. Job Title: Senior Childcare Worker

2. Location: Out of School Care Services (Based at Anderston, Garnetbank & St Patrick’s Primary Schools, Glasgow). Option to cover additional hours at our Mobile Crèche Service based in Glasgow

3. Salary: £13.21 per hour, 16 hours per week, 39 weeks per year

4. Job Purpose:

To assist the Childcare Coordinator in the effective delivery of a high-quality Childcare Service and to deputise for the Childcare Co-ordinator when they are absent from the service.

5. Role and Responsibilities

Big Voices Childcare Services LTD work in accordance with the Health & Social Care Standards, SSSC Codes of Practice, Pre-Birth to Three, GIRFEC and the Play work Principles and so staff will be expected to meet the following criteria:

Relationships

Professional Practice

You will be expected to work within a child-centred framework and strive to create an environment which;

  • Is Safe and secure while being fun and exciting for each child
  • Provides opportunities for everyone to take part in activities, taking into account children’s individual needs
  • Promotes everyone involved to have a ‘Big Voice’ and communicate confidently their ideas and opinions regarding the improvement and development of the service
  • Ensures that the individual needs of all children are met by maintaining a key worker system, where children are encouraged to work in partnership with staff to review, monitor and maintain up-to-date care plans.

As a Senior Childcare Worker you will also be required to;

  • Ensure all staff work in accordance with government guidelines and Big Voices policies and procedures
  • Have a sound understanding of local budgets, invoice registers and petty cash system.
  • Deputise for the Childcare Co-ordinator in their absence.
  • Have a sound knowledge in Child Protection and be confident in the process of dealing with any cause for concern

7. Personal & Professional Development

8. Policies and Procedures

Big Voices Childcare Services LTD aim to provide high quality childcare and so expects all staff to adhere to:

  • Big Voices Childcare Services LTD policies and procedures.
  • Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) Codes of Practice
  • Health and Social Care Standards
  • Getting it Right For Every Child Framework
  • Play work Principles
  • Pre-Birth to Three
  • Health & Safety legislation and practices.

And to;

  • Register with any required government bodies and ensure memberships are updated and any attributed costs are paid for.

9. Working Conditions

  • The post holder will report to the Childcare Coordinator.
  • They will work an average of 16 hours per week, term-time only.
  • Annual leave entitlement equivalent to 2 weeks per year (pro rata) to be taken during term time plus an additional four weeks annual leave (pro rata) to be taken during school holidays
  • Staff leaving before the end of the financial year may be required to pay back annual leave they have not yet accrued
  • There will be opportunities given to carry out overtime at our Mobile Crèche Service as well as during our holiday play schemes
  • The post holder will be required to complete mandatory training which may take place at evenings or weekends. Notice will be given when staff are required to attend and overtime will be paid.
  • All appointments are subject to a minimum of 12 weeks probationary period as well as relevant security checks.
  • The post holder will be automatically enrolled into our pension scheme following successful completion of their probationary period, provided they meet the auto-enrolment criteria.
  • Staff can choose to opt out of our pension scheme at any time.
  • The post holder will be required to register with the SSSC as a Practitioner in Day Care of Children Services and will be responsible for paying their initial registration fee. Big Voices Childcare Services will then pay for all annual registration fees thereafter.
  • Due to the nature of our work the post holder may be asked to work at different locations depending on operational requirements and staff are expected to be flexible
