Cost: £40 per person per course but individuals can use their ILA accounts to pay for the training. If wishing to pay using ILA accounts, please mention this when booking.

Tips for Positive Behaviour
Wed 16th March - 9.30 - 12.30 am

This course provides an insight on how to encourage children to demonstrate positive behaviour. It also gives anyone involved in the care of children useful tips and hints on how to encourage good behaviour and overcome challenging behaviour.

The course includes:

  • Understanding children's behaviour
  • Causes of difficult behaviour
  • Strategies to promote better behaviour and social skills
  • Why children want to behave well
  • What factors enhance good behaviour and social skills
  • Practical tips on promoting good behaviour

Managing Challenging Behaviour - Children
Wed 23rd March - 9.30 - 12.30 am

This workshop is designed to allow participants to explore some of the reasons why children may display challenging or inappropriate behaviour and also the techniques staff can use to manage this. In addition, the course will examine pro-active approaches to encourage and support positive, ongoing changes in children's behaviour.

The course includes:

  • Understanding the causes of challenging behaviour
  • Strategies to manage challenging behaviour effectively
  • Dealing with the stress of staff
  • An understanding of additional support needs that can affect children's behaviour; what works and what doesn't work
  • Case studies
  • Self-care skills and support for workers

Allergy Awareness
Wed 20th April - 9.30 - 12.30 am

This course aims to promote training in allergy awareness. It is designed on the principle that the greater number of care workers with direct or indirect patient/client contact who have an understanding of allergy awareness, the greater the chance of promoting competence and understanding. The course is aimed at anyone who provides a care service, however minimal the contact.

The course includes:

  • Impact of food allergy
  • Controls
  • Food sensitivity/intolerance
  • Stages of food allergy
  • Which foods cause problems
  • Symptoms, severe reactions and allergic emergencies

Moving and handling for Childcare
Wed 27th April - 9.30 - 12.30 am

This course covers safe moving techniques and the legislation surrounding moving and handling at work, and aims to reduce the incidence of back related injuries and ailments.

The course includes:

  • Legislation on moving and handling
  • Risk assessments
  • Anatomy of the spine
  • Ergonomics and movement
  • Safer moving techniques
