Child Protection in School Age Childcare (2.5 - 3 hours)

Child protection is a crucial responsibility for anyone working with children. This session equips staff in school age childcare with the clarity, confidence, and practical skills needed to keep children safe. Designed specifically for the sector and aligned with the National Guidance for Child Protection in Scotland, this training supports support workers and practitioners to recognise concerns early and respond appropriately every time.

Through relevant examples and case studies, participants will gain the knowledge required to act decisively and in the best interests of the child.

During this session, attendees will learn how to:

  • Define child protection and understand its meaning within the Scottish context
  • Identify the different types of abuse and neglect relevant to school age childcare
  • Recognise signs and indicators that may suggest a child is at risk
  • Respond to, report, and record concerns or disclosures with confidence and accuracy
